To improve biological effectiveness of bone regeneration, many materials have been used as a bioabsorbable membrane. In this study, bone graft materials (BGM)-loaded glycol chitosan-gellan gum membrane (BGM-GC/GEL) was constructed and compared with a collagen membrane, which is widely used. The film thickness of the BGM-GC/GEL membrane was 0.04~0.05 mm and the commercial Bio-gide of collagen composition was 0.03 mm. In scanning electron microscopy (SEM), it was observed that BGM particles were well dispersed in the GC/GEL membrane. It was evaluated through thermogravimetry analysis (TGA) that the amount of BGM contained in the GC/GEL membrane was 40% (w/w) of the total membrane. Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) analysis shows that ALP values in osteoblasts treated with BGM-GC/GEL membrane tended to increase over time. In cell cytotoxicity tests, both GC/GEL and BGM-GC/GEL membranes showed high cell viability of more than 90% even at 0.1% (w/v) concentration. Therefore, the BGM-GC/GEL membrane can be a good candidate as a guided bone regeneration.
